TIP: How To Get Out of a Parking Citation

Check your ticket very carefully. Does it have any missing information? Is it missing the registration tab information? Is it missing the VIN or does it say "CANNOT READ"?

California Vehicle 40202(a)
clearly states that citations should include "...The notice of parking violation shall also set forth the vehicle license number and registration expiration date if they are visible, the last four digits of the vehicle identification number, if that number is readable through the windshield, the color of the vehicle, and, if possible, the make of the vehicle".

Now, I am not telling you that you will get out of your citation easily, but it is DEFINITELY something to go by. If we are expected to follow the rules of the land, SFMTA and its parking citation officers should also follow the rules they are given.

Citation officers have been trained that they should not leave any REQUIRED DATA blank on citations; otherwise....no information means no citation!
